Installation Guide
You can do this
Step 1
Measure your walls
Measure the height of your wall
We offer several panel heights - 3 feet, 6 feet, 9 feet, and 12 feet.
Once you've measured your wall, go ahead and choose the panel option that fits best. Go a bit longer than you need, it's nice to have a buffer at the top & bottom for alignment.
Measure the width of your wall
All of our panels are all 20.5 inches wide.
Take the measurement of your wall (in inches), and divide by 20.5. That will tell you how many panels you need.
Don't forget to round up! If your calculation comes out to something like 3.5, then you're gonna need 4 panels.
Step 2
prep your walls
Let's be honest, nobody actually cleans their walls. No judgement here.
Before you start your project, make sure to give your wall a good wipe and let them fully dry. It just helps everything stick better.
Remember! Peel & stick wallpaper works best on smoother walls without a ton of texture. This isn't to say that it won't work if you have a little orange peel on the walls, but it really just depends on how much texture you're working with.
Another great reason to order a sample first! This way you can test it on your surface, make sure it sticks and that you like the way it looks.
We don't recommend hanging it in rooms that are super moist. If your bathroom doesn't get a ton of ventilation, probably not a great call.
Step 3
Grab some supplies
Unroll those wallpaper panels, it's time to work!
The panels come in rolls, so they have a little bend to them from being rolled up. Sometimes it can help to lay everything out flat, and mush down the edges a bit with something heavy - like books.
You'll also want:
- an x-acto knife/box cutter
- scissors
- a level
- maybe a little squeegee or something to press the paper down as you go
- something secure to stand on
- a friend, wallpaper is best applied with help
Step 4
Start sticking
Start at the top!
Hold your panel up against the wall. We don't recommend aligning the top of the panel right where your wall starts. You want to give yourself a little buffer at the top to help keep everything straight.
Peel off about a foot or so of the backing to get the initial placement right. Don't peel off all of the backing at once, or else it'll stick to itself and be a whole mess. (Ask us how we know.)
Now is the time to be bold! Hold onto the top of the paper (with the adhesive portion exposed), and let the rest hang straight down. Eyeball it and see if it looks pretty straight, then give it a little stick. Using your squeegee, press down toward the middle and work outward to firmly (but gently) apply the exposed adhesive to the wall.
Now, take a step back. This is the part where it's helpful to have a friend. Have them hold onto the top portion for you so it stays sticking, and see if you actually did a decent job eyeballing. Use your level along the edge of the adhered portion to see how that went.
If it's a little off, don't stress. You can gently peel and restick the exposed portion. Remember that it's ok to not be perfect. Walls are sometimes crooked.
Step 5
keep sticking
Once you have the top portion stuck to your liking, now you can work down the panel in small sections.
Reach behind the panel, and peel down more of the backing - maybe another foot or so. Pull the backing slightly outward and down to expose more adhesive, little by little.
As you expose more of the adhesive, continue to use your squeegee to smooth it all down. Squeegee from side to side, almost like a snake, pressing any bubbles outwards from the middle.
Keep on peeling & smoothing, until you reach the floor!
Step 6
Trim the bottom
Use your x-acto knife or box cutter to trim off any excess paper. Best if it's super sharp, so be careful! You can use a ruler, or anything with a firm edge to guide your hand along while you trim for sharp, clean lines.
Step 7
on to the next one
Take a breath, go get some water - you did it. You hung one panel.
Now let's do the next one! Align the next panel directly next to the one you just hung. There is no need to overlap, just get right up cozy next to it.
You're going to do the exact same thing you just did, but with a bit of extra precision. Because this part can get a little tricky.
You want to make sure you have everything aligned just right so there aren't any weird gaps between the panels.
Take your time with it. Peel off that little bit of backing, like you just did with the first one and line it right up to your first panel. Make sure it's hanging straight and do your first stick again!
Once you have the top applied, take another step back and check it out. We like to sort of push down on the rest of the panel down to see if it looks like it will align correctly as you work your way down.
If it's a little off, go ahead and try again. It takes a bit of practice to get this part just right, but you can do it!
Once everything is all lined up, repeat the same steps you did for your initial panel. Remove bits of backing, use your squeegee, work your way down, cut at the bottom.
Repeat this all the way down the wall!
Step 8
admire your handiwork
Congratulations. You've done it.
